I have been moved by her digital prowess as well as her interpretative insights and projection of excellent sonorities. She adapts well to instruction and instantly transforms what she reads into meaningful artistic gestures.

Stefanie Mirwald was born in Neumarkt i.d.Opf. (Bavaria, Germany). Her musical activity is extremely varied and spans from early music through Piazzolla tangoes to contemporary music. Stefanie has recorded for radio in Germany and Switzerland, television (NDR-Nordtour), and has recorded CDs as well as music for films. She is regularly appearing as a guest artist with the Philharmonischen Orchester Würzburg, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Hofer Symphonikern, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Ensemble Modern, Grup Mixtour and Ensemble Windkraft Tirol. She is member in Duo SaitenZungenspiel, zone expérimentale Basel, Gyre Ensemble, Collective Mycelium, too hot to hoot? and neuverBand. Stefanie has been heard as a soloist, chamber musician, or in orchestras in Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Poland, Spain, Austria, Japan, Switzerland and United States. She performed in different Festivals like Gstaad Menuhin Festival, IMPULS Graz, Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, ZeitRäume Festival Basel, Klangspuren Festival Schwaz, Osterfestival Hall in Tirol and Zeitfestival. Stefanie is a prize winner in numerous competitions, including first prize for “Musical Talent in Oberpfälzer Jura” (2006), special prize from the city of Erlangen (Germany) for the “Best Interpretation of a Contemporary Work” at the Competition for Young Musicians (2008), first prize at the “German Accordion Music Competition” (2012) and first prize at the “Kiefer Hablitzel prize” (2016). She also received the “Bavarian Culture Award” for special artistic and scholarly achievements in 2014. Stefanie has received scholarships from “Musikerkennen – Förderergesellschaft der Musikhochschule Lübeck e.V.”, „Yehudi Menuhin – Live Music Now“ and DAAD. In addition, she had the opportunity to study with Iñaki Alberdi in Musikene (Spain) in 2012/13 through the ERASMUS program and in 2014 was an artist in residence at the Banff Centre (Canada).
In 2014, Stefanie completed the Diploma in Music Education with honors under the tutelage of Stefan Hussong, in 2016, she completed the Master of Contemporary Music at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel and the Master of Performance at the Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg and 2019 she finished “Meisterklasse” in Würzburg. She has participated in masterclasses with Joseph Macerollo, Matti Rantanen, Sofia Gubaidulina, Mie Miki, Geir Draugsvoll, Janne Rättyä, Claudia Buder, Friedrich Lips, Veli Kujala, and the Internationalen Ensemble Modern Akademie (IEMA).
